According to Jon Prosser (pretty good track record in predicting releases and rumors), the AirPower project has been reinstated internally and engineers are currently working on methods to displace heat more effectively by re-engineering the coils from the ground up. The biggest challenge for Apple with the AirPower was that it didn’t support the Apple Watch charging and Apple refuses to release a version that doesn’t support the Apple Watch, and according to Jon Prosser none of the existing prototypes support the Apple Watch. He also briefly warned that this doesn’t mean Apple will release this product anytime soon and it is not finalized, these are just efforts to start prototyping.
