App Store

First introduced in 2008, the App Store allows developers to distribute their own applications to users. It hosts content specifically produced for iOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS, made with Apple’s own Xcode developer tools.

Up to 2018, customers have downloaded more than 194 billion apps. These include games, wellbeing apps, workflow tools, social media applications, entertainment, photo editing and many more. The App Store is available on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV and came to Apple Watch in 2019 with watchOS 6.

Apps can be downloaded for free, usually with ads or in-app purchases, or at a set cost, no less than $0.99. Developers can also opt to use Apple’s universal purchase feature, which lets you purchase an app on one device, and have access to it on other Apple platforms.
