Apple releases iOS 8.3.4 for Apple TV 3rd Generation

Apple has released a new software update for older Apple TV models today, alongside iOS 13.4 and subsequent updates. iOS 8.4.4 is available for Apple TV 3rd Generation, which was released in 2013.

Although it may seem like an update for older iPhones, iPads and iPod touches, the firmware is only available on certain models of Apple TV. In 2015, Apple introduced the ‘tvOS’ name for the operating system running on the 4th-generation model (and newer releases), and the older discontinued models stuck with the old iOS naming pattern.

We’re currently unsure as to what’s changed with this update, but it’s likely a minor security fix. We’ll update this article when we can confirm the release notes for iOS 8.4.4. Users of Apple TV 3rd-generation can download and install this update now.
