Apple removes ability to ignore macOS Update Notifications

Apple has made it more difficult to avoid installing the latest major macOS updates, with changes introduced in macOS Catalina 10.15.5 last week.

The change means that users who want to ‘hide’ prompts to upgrade to the latest version of the operating system can no longer do so. Before this, users could use the Terminal command softwareupdate –ignore “macOS Catalina” to hide the System Preferences notification badge and upgrade button in the app.

This command now says that ‘ignoring software updates is deprecated’ and ‘The ability to ignore individual updates will be removed in a future release of macOS’.

macOS High Sierra and Mojave are also affected by this, with Security Update 2020-003, released just recently. It’s a move that will encourage these users to upgrade their Mac to the latest version of the operating system. Via MacRumors
