Apple to release iOS 14, iPadOS 14, watchOS 7 and tvOS 14 on September 16th

Apple will release major new versions of iOS, iPadOS, watchOS and tvOS tomorrow (September 16th).

iOS 14 introduces major home screen changes with App Library and Widgets. A new Compact UI for phone calls means that they now appear as a notification at the top of your display. Siri has also received a redesign, with improvements to performance too.

Picture-in-Picture brings video-playback to any app, allowing you to multitask and continue watching media playback when sending an email or playing a game. Other new features include Pinned Conversations and inline replies for Messages, emoji search, privacy improvements, cyclying directions in Maps and more.

iPadOS 14 introduces a new compact UI with sidebar for many applications, making it easier to perform quick functions and view more options in one place. Scribble lets you write in any text field with Apple Pencil and convert it to type and optical-character recognition means you can convert your handwriting to copyable text. iPadOS 14 also includes features introduced on the iPhone, like new widget, changes to Messages and Apple Maps support for EV routing.

watchOS 7 adds huge new features such as handwashing alerts, a dedicated Sleep Tracking app, translation with Siri and more. You can share Watch faces with family and friends and perform quick actions with the new Shortcuts app for watchOS. Apps can offer multiple complications on a watch face and Activity is now called Fitness (linking in with Fitness+).

tvOS 14 is a minor upgrade by brings improvements to Picture-in-Picture, 4K video support with the YouTube app and smart home features.

macOS Big Sur will not be available on September 16th with other software updates and will likely come next month.
