Dom Hoffman, the co-founder of Vine, has quietly been building the next generation of the app since Vine shut down back in 2016. Last April, Hoffman teased the release of the new app and introduced a closed beta. Today, Byte officially launches for both iOS and Android.
The new 6-second looping video app is “both familiar and new” according to its founder.

Hoffman has been working on and off for years on the app after Twitter acquired Vine.
The tag line for Byte is “creativity first” and they noted that they will soon begin to pay popular creators and influencers in the app “very soon”.

The app is available through the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Android users can “Sign in with Google” and Apple users can also “Sign in with Apple”.
When you are logged in, you are greeted with the “Home” tab. Until you’re following people, you will see rebytes form the official @byte account. The search page contains a bunch of cool creative categories for you to explore all of the content on byte.
To create a byte, simply press the white circle in the middle (bottom bar) and record. Then, post your looping video.
