Fitbit Charge 4 announced with mobile payments, built in GPS and more

After being acquired by Google last year, Fitbit has announced the release of the Fitbit Charge 4 fitness tracker, on track to replace the Charge 3, one of the larger competitors to Apple Watch.

Priced $149 and due for shipping on April 13th, the Charge 4 offers the usual sensors to track heart rate, but comes with an additional “advanced combination of sensors and features” that allow for additional vitals to be tracked.

Fitbit Charge 4 now has built-in GPS

Built-in GPS is also available on the Fitbit Charge 4, allowing users to track workouts on a map that can later be viewed on the Fitbit app on iOS and Android (they can leave their phone behind, too). However, battery life, which is set around 7 days as before, will take a serious hit, reducing a minimal five hours.

Also, Spotify integration is included for controlling music with that service, contactless (NFC) payment capabilities with Fitbit Pay, and an SpO2 sensor which powers the blood oxygen feature available within the mobile app.

Features such as sleep tracking, heart tracking, exercise modes and all-week battery life are apparent from the previous model. A Special Edition model offers another band for $20 more.
