UPDATED: Fortnite ‘Season 4’ update leaves Apple players behind

The latest update to Fortnite has dropped support for Apple devices, meaning players using those devices are stuck with a significantly older version of the game. Season 4 of Fortnite was made available today on Android, PC, Xbox, PS4 and Switch and brings Marvel-themed skins, points of interest and more.

Epic has started informing players that Fortnite for iOS and macOS has been blocked and will no longer receive updates. Although Fortnite wasn’t available from the App Store on Mac, Epic have still made the decision to block updates.

To play Chapter 2 – Season 4 now, download Fortnite on PC or on PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch. If you want to play Fortnite on Android, you can access the latest version of Fortnite from the Epic Games App for Android on Fortnite.com/Android or the Samsung Galaxy Store.

People who play the game on Mac, iPad and iPhone will be unable to get the update after Apple banned Fortnite from the App Store after their developers introduced a direct payment system, bypassing Apple’s in-app purchase guidelines. Instead, users will be able to play version 13.40 of the game, released last week and won’t have access to new in-game content such as the ‘battle pass’ and changes to the map.

It comes after Epic Games sued Apple and called them out for their monopoly and anti-competitive behaviour. This resulted in Apple revoking Epic’s access to developer tools on their platform, meaning their Unreal Engine, also used by other game developers, would stop working.
