Apple has today announced upgrades to the iPhone Xs and Xs Max – the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. They feature an additional camera, processor updates and much more. You can pre-order the devices, starting at $999, from Friday, for September 20th shipping.
The refreshed design features a new midnight Green color, with an updated Space Grey, Silver and ‘new’ Gold. The back has a matte-based glass rather than gloss, and now a triple-camera bump. The front, although keeping the notch, goes up to 1200 nits in brightness and has a Super Retina XDR display with a wider dynamic range.
Similarly to the iPhone 11, Night Mode automatically increases the brightness of low-level and dark photos to enhance them. QuickTake, coming soon to the Camera app, lets you record video at the hold of a button. Apple says the Camera application will gain major design updates and a new ‘SFCamera’ font in a future software update.
Apple has added the ultra-wide camera on all iPhones, with f/2.4 aperture and 120-degree FOV. It can be activated with the tap of a button, and you can change the lens you’re using by tapping ‘0.5x’ or ‘2x’. The telephoto lens has a new feature called 100% Focus Pixels.
The front camera receives an upgrade to 12MP, and support for video Slow-Mo and the wide-angle selfies, as seen on the iPhone 11.
For the additional power, the A13 Bionic chip runs iOS 13 and allows for longer battery life with the lower energy use, Apple claims – it can perform 1 trillion operations per second. The company boasts an addition 4-5 hours of battery life over last year’s Xs and Xs Max.
Finally, WiFi 6 and improved cellular speeds are bundled with the devices, along with faster Face ID that works at greater angles. We’ll have a round-up of smaller features soon.
