There hasn’t been much information about this year’s macOS update. Apart from the version number (10.16), we don’t know the naming or many new features coming in the update. Despite all of this, a leaker on Twitter who has previously been accurate with other information, is suggesting that Apple will be planning an overhaul in the next version of macOS.
After teasing ‘macOS 11’, he says the update could bring an overhauled user interface. In the tweet, he states ‘New UI’ and leaves it on that. It’s not that clear as to what the leaker means by this and if it’s even true.
This won’t be announced at this year’s WWDC keynote, as expected. macOS 11 could come as ‘early as’ next year and be announced at WWDC21. It will give Apple time to continue working on the new features planned for that upgrade.
Finally, macOS 11 (or the next version of the oeprating system) will be optimised for ARM Macs. Bloomberg recently reported that Apple could move to custom-made ARM chips in some of next year’s Macs, so the new devices could come with this version of macOS preinstalled.
