Microsoft Revamps Office Apps For iPad, Adds Trackpad Support

New Start screens in Office apps on iPad

Microsoft is revamping its Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications for iPad and adding support for mouse and trackpad.

All apps now support mouse and trackpad, a feature first introduced with iPadOS 13.4, earlier this year. Microsoft says you’ll be able to highlight text in Word, select a cell in Excel and resize graphics in PowerPoint alongside much more.

The Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps are now receiving updates to take full advantage of trackpad support in iPadOS to give iPad users using a mouse or Apple’s new Magic Keyboard easy cursor control, fluid navigation, and precise adjustments.

All apps are getting redesigned UI elements, from a new start screen to ribbon design. The start screen has been simplified and now looks similar to the dashboard on the online version of Word.

An improved ribbon design has also been announced. It’s not clear if these changes will come to iPhone, but they’ll be rolling out on iPad from today.
