Russia lifts two-year ban on Telegram app

On Thursday, Russia lifted a ban on the Telegram that was put in place over two years ago, according to Reuters.

The ban was dropped after the app’s Russian owner, Pavel Durov, was prepared to support the country’s movements in combatting terrorism and extremism on the popular messaging platform.

Telegram was originally based due to the encryption used on chats, which makes it hard for governments to track down terrorists using the app. However, despite the ban, Russian government departments still had official channels on the app.
