WhatsApp Web stops supporting old Microsoft Edge

In January, Microsoft released a new version of its Edge browser that was based on open source platform Chromium, the same technology that Google Chrome relies on. The company is now dropping support for the previous version of Microsoft Edge, labelled as ‘Legacy’, which first shipped with Windows 10 in 2015.

WhatsApp has now left users of the old Microsoft Edge behind and encourages them to upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft Edge or use Google Chrome or Firefox.

“To use WhatsApp, update Windows 10 to get the latest version of Microsoft Edge or use Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Opera,” the warning reads.

Chromium Edge will replace Edge Legacy in recent versions of Windows 10. Microsoft made this clear with the October 2020 Update, that included the new browser.
