Breaking: Mobile Word Congress 2020 cancelled after coronavirus outbreak

After lots of major tech firms have dropped out throughout the past week, this year’s Mobile World Congress event has been cancelled because of the coronavirus outbreak.

John Hoffman, CEO of GSMA, said that “the outbreak has made it impossible to hold the event”, and it wouldn’t be going ahead, after previously scheduled for 24th to 27th February. The statement was emailed to Bloomberg and Financial Times.

Amazon, Intel, LG, Sony, Facebook, Vivo and many other technology companies confirmed they wouldn’t be attending due to to the virus affecting production in China. It was no different for Apple – they never attend MWC events, and stick to their own keynotes annually.

It’s currently not known if the conference will be held at a later date – we’ll update this article with further details once it has developed.
